Crack—Bang—BOOM! How are you doing on your writing journey? I’ve decided to BOOM! Yes, it was a decision.
Last year, I had so many irons in the fire, it was tricky to focus on finishing any one project at all. With the new year came new resolutions, or for me, renewed and reused goals. My focus for 2025 was nothing new, simply to FINISH all the projects I’d already started.
I jumped in with a list…for those of you who follow me, you know how I feel about my lists! This helped my ADHD brain to settle on one project at a time. Now, to be fair, I do tend to jump from one thing to the next, yet with my principal list and the burden of something brand new off my shoulder, I’ve been able to complete multiple projects!
If I can share anything with you, fellow writers on your own journeys, set clear goals to simply complete what you already have going—it’s the big bang of July for me! And if you start now, you might experience your own fireworks by New Year’s Eve!
I’m a firm believer in sticking to your list (even if you add a few things here and there along the way). Just physically look at it and perhaps find a fun way to check off each accomplished goal. Maybe you set up some treats along the way to help entice you to carry out each small step. Perhaps you earn a sticker on a chart, however many determining a latte or a new writing journal or whatever it is that makes you smile along the way to your endgame.
I’ve been happily coloring the shapes I drew on scratch paper. It doesn’t have to be fancy to be effective. And remember, part of the creative process is noticing the small steps, so make sure to dedicate time for multiple celebrations along the way.
I am so excited about bringing you some big news soon. If you want it early, consider joining my monthly newsletter. I’m announcing the launch of my next book and so much more in the letter posting this Thursday, July 10th!
So, there you go, Crack—Bang—BOOM! It was a decision to finish all my unresolved goals from previous years rather than add new ones on top, creating more stress and defeat for me. This is my six-month check-in, and so far, approaching my intentions in this new way has been the best decision of my life!
I hope you try it too! Imagine if you started to simply “finish” all your previous goals right now? Where might you be by next January first when you’re making new resolutions?
Cheers friends, and happy writing!
