It’s been over a year now that I’ve embraced being a multi-genre author. This title isn’t one I’ve worn lightly.
Far from the breezy sundresses swaying in the hibiscus-scented air of Maui, my imagery of living a multi-genre author life is more like wearing layers. A lightweight, breathable underlayer before adding long sleeves, a flannel, and a puffy jacket. Where I imagine sandals slipped over color-painted toes for that one genre author, my feet are smothered in wool socks and heavy boots.
Now don’t get upset if you’re a writer of one genre. I started out that way, and believe me, I know writing of any kind (especially trying to brand and market yourself) is rough for all of us. My analogies are mine because if you know me, I tend to overcomplicate things. I have always been this way. If there’s an easier way to do things, I run in the opposite direction. And fast!
It’s truly too late for me. I’m earmuffs and hat over boots about writing poetry, and fantasy, and young adult, and paranormal, and contemporary romance (short stories for now), with the hope of publishing children’s picture books. To be honest, I don’t see a way out of my self-inflicted craze!
At least is warm inside…and I’d like to think snuggly too. Of course these are my selling points to myself.
I simply want to take the opportunity to thank you for your support as I mitten my way through all the genre-hopping. Sometimes, when you read Steps In Between, you get the genre you read and love, and sometimes you find something new and different. Just trust I will always spiral back…it’s what I do!
Happy writing, reading, and creating,
Celaine Charles, April 7, 2026
