I Cannot Write Today

My mind wandered this morning, like an early summer sun leisurely seeks a cheek to warm; I cannot write today. I gave it my best effort, sitting down at my desk. A few lines for a poem emerged…then sank to the shaded parts of my creativity. I looked over a scene in my fiction novel, but the words blurred into nonsense. So, I made a cup of coffee, decaf, as […]

Docked in my Rewrite

Docked here in the middle of my novel rewrite, I’m reminded of a l-o-n-g boat ride up Washington’s Lake Roosevelt. My family often boated, but this trip from Fort Spokane to Grand Coulee was quite the adventure. I always enjoyed the anticipation of boating somewhere beautiful, taking in surprise vistas and stops along the way. On this particular trip we popped a tent and spent the night with family friends. Messages Making Their Way – Keep Writing

Recurring messages have perfect timing. It may not feel like it when we’re flat on our faces, but they do know when to nudge. Growing up with parents who persevered to achieve everything their hearts desired, it’s probably in my bones not to give up. It’s an opportunity to begin again regardless of life’s happenings in the year before. I see it as a wool overcoat, houndstooth. With only […]

September Poetry Begins Its Fall ~ First Sunday of the Month

Technically it’s still summer until the middle of the month. But there’s something about September that puts me in the mood for warm cider by the fireplace, football games, and crockpot dinners. The name September comes from the Latin root, septem- meaning seven. I read in Dictionary.com that in the original Roman republican calendar, September was the seventh month of a ten-month year until perhaps 153 BC. Of course, today […]

May Poetry ~ A Masterpiece, A Dance, And A Little Fallen Rain

May Poetry ~ A Masterpiece, A Dance, And A Little Fallen Rain Intrigued? Come visit my poetry page: https://stepsinbetween.com/poetry/ It’s the first Sunday of the month, so time to throw on the stage lights to the poetry side of my life. As you know I write all kinds of things, presently reworking my fiction novel. Though poetry is something I began writing seriously several years ago and once the floodgates […]

Accomplishments – A Matter of Perspective

I have accomplished mountains of laundry and grading today. You were maybe thinking I had completed writing the outline for my second book, Dream Keepers, or made progress on my poetry project. I wish those writing feats were true. Although I wear many hats these days, and as writer-teacher-wife-mother-friend… my mother and teacher hats needed to be pulled out of the closet. However, I have some writing tips below to help with a […]
